Vintage wedding Friars Court – Rob & Sian

Sit yourself down for the story of Rob & Sian’s vintage wedding at Friars Court in June 2012.  Better still, if you’re looking for some vintage wedding ideas, perhaps inspiration on how to decorate a rustic barn for a wedding, then look no further – it’s all here for your delight.

When it comes to weddings, watching the weather on the run up is pretty much an obsession…..not only of mine, but no doubt the bride and groom too.   Guests worry about what to wear, venues worry about cars getting stuck in the field or the marquee leaking…..yes it’s Britain, and summer is rarely summery!  This was a given for the Jubilee weekend, as with any bank holiday weekend, the weather was undoubtedly going to be pants!  So for Sian there was only one thing to do,  consult her lucky 8 ball, as you really do need ‘fairly’ decent weather if you have an outdoor wedding ceremony planned!

Thankfully the lucky 8 ball reported back “the outlook was favourable”….good stuff!  However, being more scientific myself,  I couldn’t trust that alone and checked my wedding weather app instead.  Well….would you believe it.  Of all the days to get married Jubilee week, Monday 4th June was pretty much the best!  Could this be a sign of good things to come?

Wedding weather report

If you’re thinking of having a vintage wedding at Friars Court, you’ve got several options.  It’s got plenty of outdoor space, so you can have your own marquee set-up (be that a traditional style/wedding tipi) or alternatively use the rustic barn they have on site too.  Jeffrey is great for ideas on how to decorate the place (seeing as he’s a trained interior designer) but if you’re lucky enough to have a sister who works in a ‘prop shop’ (like Rob’s did) then I suggest simply using her!  Sian’s creative mind certainly helps too!

Sian and Rob started their day at the nearby accommodation of Goodlake Barns, which is a great set-up, catering well for a small selection of wedding guests choosing to stay in one place prior (or even after) a wedding at Friars Court.  It was simply straight on from their to the outdoor wedding ceremony and drinks reception all at Friars Court itself.  I’d definitely say, if you are thinking ‘English Country Garden theme’ for your wedding and want the relaxed feel of an outdoor wedding ceremony with a vintage twist, then look no further than this super venue.  You can read more about Friars Court here, and view other weddings I’ve photographed at the venue too.

Killer red wedding shoes.  Now that’s what I like to see wedding guests wearing.  In fact this lady was a pretty cool dresser full stop.

She’s made the next photo too I just noticed.  So you know what her feet are like and that she wore a fascinator!  Ohh the mystique!  Did you spot her 40’s style dress earlier too?

Robs brother pulled some serious skeletons from the closet for his best mans speech.  This my friends is the badge collection Rob had made!  Second to his other hobby of making walking sticks!  Yes, he may be a snappy dresser now and run a mens clothing shop, but he came from humble beginnings!
